Years 1& 2 trip to Harlow Carr
Years 1&2 across The Federation had a lovely time at Harlow Carr on Wednesday 17th July- and the sun was shining. We had a great time exploring, foraging to make our own birds nests and also looked at all the different minibeasts that can be found.
Habitats and Living Things!
Class 2 were out in the garden yesterday afternoon as part of our science topic on habitats and living things. We learnt to pond dip and then looked at all the living things in and around the pond. We found: leeches, fresh water shrimp, water louse, blood worms and water fleas. We know we have a frog in there too, but unfortunately we didn’t see that! We also finished of the ‘Bug Hotel’ that class 1 started.
Come Dine With Me
A busy, fun and delicious Wednesday for years 5 and 6. As part of out DT unit ‘Come dine with me’, the children used lots of lovely fresh produce from the school garden to create a range of starters and mains. The results were fantastic and it was very rewarding to have planted the vegetables last half term and harvested them this week.
Open Gardens afternoon
Parents and carers were invited into school on Monday 8th July to see all the hard work that has been put into our school garden this summer. What a wonderful afternoon! Thank you so much to Chrissy, our parent volunteer who organised the event and for all her hard work and time she has given in creating our amazing garden.
Micro:bit
Classes 2 and 3 had a lovely time today, working together to carry out a survey of the temperatures in the playground. They programmed Micro:bits to use as thermometers then used them to test the different temperatures of man-made and natural surfaces. We found that the man-made materials had, on average, a higher surface temperature. We entered our data into a national BBC playground survey.
